Is Sufism related to Islam?

Islam refers to submitting before God and so does the teachings of Sufism portray.

According to Sufism, everything is created by God. Whether they are humans or animals. They are Muslims or Non-Muslims. They are one’s friends or enemies. One thing in common is that they all are created by the same God. Therefore, the Seeker, the lover who is in love with his God loves everything that belongs to Him, leaving behind all sorts and kinds of differences.

The Seeker, tries to follow the Sunnah, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Sufism, however, is related to Islam.

Islam and other Religions

Islam is closely connected with other religions such as Judaism and Christianity. In fact, the Holy Qur’an explains that the religion of the Jews and Christians is the same as that revealed to Muhammad (Peace be upon Him),

“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus – to establish the religion and not be divided therein. Difficult for those who associate others with Allah is that to which you invite them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him]”. [Al Quran- 42:13]

The Holy Quran further says,

“..And they did not become divided until after knowledge had come to them – out of jealous animosity between themselves. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord [postponing the penalty] until a specified time, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, those who were granted inheritance of the Scripture after them are, concerning it, in disquieting doubt.

So to that [religion of Allah] invite, [O Muhammad], and remain on a right course as you are commanded and do not follow their inclinations but say, “I have believed in what Allah has revealed of the Qur’an, and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is no [need for] argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination.” [Al Quran- 42:15-16]

Islam also believe in Prophets in which other Religions also believe which are as Moses, David, Nuh, Isa, and Abrahim (Peace be upon them).

Therefore Islam respects other religions since it remains the Religion of Love, Peace and Harmony.

Who is a Shaykh e Tareeqah?

Traditionally, a teacher is must for worldly teachings and same is the practice for Religious knowledge (Ilm). Similarly, an authentic Spiritual Guide  famously known as the Shaykh is necessary for the ‘Purification of self’ (Tazkiya-e-Nafs), heart diseases and training of the soul.

According to Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi (May Allah be Pleased with Him),

Shariah is a beacon to lead to a Path and to tread upon it is Mystic Way Order (Tariqah). Reaching at the destination is a reality (Haqiqah and Marifah). The Prayer, therefore, could only be learnt through a Disciplinary Shaykh E Tareeqah.
